Homogeneity in Sintering of Fine Ni-20Cr Powder by Pulsed Electric Current Sintering Process

Azojomo, 2 May 2006 Homogeneity of porous Ni-20Cr bodies made of powders with 5 mm and 70 mm in particle size fabricated by pulsed electric current sintering (PECS) was investigated by means of microstructure observation. Porous samples made of fine powder by PECS had a microstructure with the interior significantly denser than the surface region. The heterogeneous structure is caused by temperature distribution generated due to self-heating of sample by Joule heating and heat transfer from sample to die.
